Hybrid - the term hybrid originates from the Greek language, initially meaning "arrogance". Later the term referred primarily to something "mixed", "of two different origins" or a combination of several things. Corresponding to this definition, a hybrid vehicle is a vehicle which has two types of energy and drives. The most common hybrid version comprises of a combustion engine combined with an electric drive. Hybrid drives can increase a vehicle's performance in the lower rpm- range considerably.

Hybrids also serve a much more important purpose: they contribute to the significant reduction of fossil fuel consumption - or more simply phrased: the use of hybrid drives saves fuel.
